About Us

How a cane growers' cooperative in Puranpur built a degree college from its own harvest earnings.

The lack of higher education in the progressive Tehsil Puranpur of District Pilibhit gave the community a serious reason to think, and take a step, toward opening a degree college in the area.

On 22nd December 1986, at a general assembly meeting of the cane society, it was decided that farmers would contribute to a fund to establish the college. Every fifty paisa collected would go toward it. Through this channel, the Sahkari Ganna Vikas Samiti Ltd. Puranpur was able to raise lakhs of rupees to establish a degree college for the students of Puranpur.

For this purpose, the Ganna Utpadak Siksha Samiti was established and registered on 8th May 1990. Delayed for a time by the lack of available land, the project moved forward when, on 6th July 1993, several kind-hearted persons donated 5.6 acres of land in Narayanpur Village, Tehsil Puranpur, for the college. An additional 2.6 acres from Gram Panchayat land was donated by the S.D.M., Puranpur, and the D.M. of Pilibhit.
